Celebration of Community Engagement
On Thursday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m.
A Celebration of Community Engagement is to take place on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. at the Newbold Auditorium in Buller Hall. Andrews University faculty and departments will share their community engagement programs through video presentations and posters.
This will be the fourth Celebration of Community Engagement since the event’s establishment in 2019 for the purpose of connecting research, knowledge, community engagement and service. The event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Office of Research & Creative Scholarship, the James White Library and the Community Engagement Council.
Presenters will show a short video or poster describing the needs addressed by their community engagement program, the demographic being served, the timeline of activities, and the outcomes of their program. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student in recognition of their community engagement efforts.
Posters and a reception will take place in the Buller Hall hallway at 6:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. Daniel Xisto of Tacoma Park Seventh-day Adventist Church will give a keynote speech in Newbold Auditorium and departmental project videos will also be shown. President John Wesley Taylor will provide a mission spotlight.
Students attending the Celebration of Community Engagement will have the opportunity to see the direct impact of community engagement programs and how they utilize the university’s resources to help address community needs. This year’s program will include students from the School of Professions, School of Architecture and Interior Design, School of Nursing, Innovation Center, Lifestyle Medicine Clinic, various STEM departments and the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary.
